HEALTH RULES for LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS - Livestock and poultry that exhibit
symptoms of any infectious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts, may not be exhibited. All animals must
be examined by the official veterinarian on the day they are admitted to the exhibition and at least once daily during the
exhibition.
CATTLE - No specific tests or identification are required.
SHEEP and GOATS - Sheep and goats, including wethers, must be identified with official identification approved for use in the scrapie eradication
program. Official identification includes USDA Scrapie identification tags and tattoos approved by the Board of Animal Health. Sheep and goats that are within 30 days of giving birth (before or after) cannot be exhibited unless prior arrangements are made with the
exhibition and permission is granted by the Board of Animal Health.
SWINE - Swine must be individually identified.
HORSES - All horses must be negative to an official test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months prior to the
opening date of the exhibition. A test is not required for suckling foals accompanying a negative dam.
POULTRY - Poultry, except waterfowl and pigeons, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band and must have had a
negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease
conducted within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or originate directly from parent stock tested and found negative for
pullorum-typhoid disease within the last 12 months. In addition, turkeys must be tested negative or originate directly from
parent stock that is tested negative for salmonella typhimurium, mycoplasma gallisepticum, and mycoplasma synoviae. Poultry must be accompanied by a testing
or origination certificate approved by the Board.
DOGS - Over 6 months of age must be accompanied by a current Certificate of Rabies Vaccination issued by a Licensed
Veterinarian.
Requirements for Livestock and Poultry originating from states other than Minnesota:
HORSES, CATTLE, SWINE, SHEEP, GOATS AND POULTRY
All animals must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection, in addition to the requirements outlined above.
